Prior to or following a recent surgical procedure, you may receive physical therapy to improve your current condition.
Having physical therapy prior to surgery may help to speed recovery following surgery by improving range of motion, strength, flexibility, gait, and/or function. Also, education regarding the rehabilitation following your specific surgery may be included as well as immediate post-operative precautions and instructions. Rehabilitation may also be prescribed to improve your current condition with the goal of avoiding possible surgery.
Post-surgical rehabilitation encourages a faster recovery through range of motion improvements, strengthening, neuromuscular re-education, gait training, and/or functional activities. A home exercise program instruction may be included in your treatment to promote a quicker recovery and to help you reach your goals.
